So, you’re aiming to work as a nurse in the UAE. It’s a good choice. You get paid well, there is no tax, and the hospitals are well established. But there is one thing standing between you and that job offer, that is the MOH exam for nurses UAE. If nobody has explained this to you properly yet, that is what this article is for.

MOH is short for Ministry of Health. The UAE calls it the Ministry of Health and Prevention or MOHAP. They are the ones who decide if a nurse is qualified to work in the UAE or not. Before any hospital in certain parts of the UAE can hire you, you need to clear MOHAP’s licensing exam. That is the MOHAP nursing exam in simple terms.
Here is something that trips up a lot of nurses, though. The UAE is not one single place when it comes to nursing licenses. There are three licensing authorities that cover different regions.
MOH (MOHAP) includes Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain. These are called the Northern Emirates. If your hospital is in any of these places, the MOH UAE nursing license is what you need.
DHA is for Dubai. Only Dubai.
DOH (used to be called HAAD) is for Abu Dhabi.
These three are totally separate. One does not work in place of another. So the very first thing you should do before anything else is find out which emirate your job is in. That single answer tells you which exam you need to take.

2026 MOHAP Nursing Exam Format and Syllabus
1. How the Exam Actually Works
The MOH nursing exam format 2026 is computer-based. It is run by a company called Prometric. You go to one of their test centers, sit at a computer, and answer questions. Prometric has centers in India, including in Kerala, so you can take this exam before you even leave for the UAE.
The structure of the Prometric MOH exam for nurses is very basic:
- Number of questions: 150 MCQs
- Time allotted: 2 hours & 45 minutes
- Format of questions: One option as the correct answer.
- Negative marking: zero.
No negative marking means you should never leave a blank. Guess if you have to. A guess has a chance. A blank has none.
2. Passing Score and Results
For the MOH exam passing score 2026, registered nurses need to score 50%. Assistant nurses need 45%. After you attend the exam, results come within 5 working days. You will get an email. But here is the thing: they only tell you Pass or Fail. The actual score number is not shown to you.
You get 3 chances total. Use them wisely. If you fail three times, MOHAP wants to see proof that you did extra training before they let you try again.
3. The Syllabus Breakdown
The MOH Exam for Nurses Syllabus 2026 is divided into four parts. This point is worth knowing because each part contains a unique number of questions, and thus needs a unique amount of preparation from you.
4. Nursing Fundamentals: 30 questions
Basics. Infection control, hand washing steps, patient safety, wound care, vital signs, giving medications, and catheter care. Most nurses who have been working for a while know most of this. But study it anyway because the questions can get specific.
5. Medical-Surgical Nursing: 61 questions
This is the biggest section by far, 61 out of 150 questions. Heart problems, lung conditions, kidney disease, diabetes, nervous system issues, after-surgery care, and more. Pharmacology is also part of this section: drug names, what they do, side effects, what you as a nurse need to watch. Because this section has the most questions, give it the most study time. Simple logic.
6. Maternal-Child Nursing: 44 questions
Care during pregnancy, labor, and childbirth; care following birth, newborn care, nursing, children’s ailments, and development in children. It is a big section too. Do not push it to the last day.
7. Unit Management, Leadership and Ethics: 15 questions
Patient rights, nursing ethics, documentation, codes of conduct, and some management basics. Only 15 questions, but that is still 10% of the paper. Enough to matter.

MOH Exam Eligibility for Nurses in UAE
What You Need Before Applying
MOH exam eligibility for nurses UAE requires a few things:
- A BSN degree from a recognized university. Minimum 3 years full-time. If you have an 18-month nursing diploma, you can apply as an assistant nurse.
- A valid nursing license from your home country. For Indian nurses, this means your Indian Nursing Council or state nursing council registration.
- A valid BLS certificate. Basic Life Support. Make sure it has not expired.
- A Good Standing Certificate from your nursing council. Very important point here: this certificate must be issued within the last 6 months. If it is 7 months old, get a new one. MOHAP will not accept it.
- A passport copy that is currently valid.
For Nurses from India
The MOH exam eligibility for Indian nurses is the same as above. Your INC registration or state council license is fine. Your nursing degree will go through DataFlow verification, which we explain below.

2026 PQR Update: Read This Carefully
The MOHAP amended the requirements in the PQR in 2026. As such, some nurses who have graduated with the Bachelor of Science in Nursing may no longer need the previously mandatory two-year period of clinical experience. This matters a lot for fresh graduates.
But please read this part carefully. It does not apply to all. It depends on when you graduated from school, what college you were enrolled in, and even where you come from. DataFlow: What It Is
DataFlow verification is also called PSV, Primary Source Verification. MOHAP uses it to check that your documents are real. They do not just take your certificates at face value. DataFlow actually contacts your university, your nursing council, and your previous employers to confirm everything.
Here is how to apply for the MOH nursing exam DataFlow verification in simple steps:
- Step 1: Make your account on the MOHAP e-services portal. Upload your documents and submit your application.
- Step 2: MOHAP reviews it. Once approved, you pay the initial application fee and get a link to start DataFlow. The DataFlow fee is AED 1,235.
- Step 3: DataFlow starts verifying. This takes 4 to 8 weeks usually. Sometimes longer, depending on how fast your institutions reply.
- Step 4: After DataFlow clears your documents, you get an eligibility ID.
- Step 5: Use that eligibility ID to go to the Prometric website and book your exam date.
The single biggest mistake nurses make in this process is waiting for a job offer before starting DataFlow. Do not do that. Start it early. If you wait, you might lose the job because the paperwork is not done in time.

- Do not study everything equally. Medical-Surgical has 61 questions. Give it the most time. This one habit alone puts you in a better position than most candidates.
- MCQs every day, not theory. The exam does not ask you to write an essay about a disease. It gives you a patient situation and asks what you would do. You get good at that by practicing MCQs daily. Not by reading textbooks for 6 hours straight.
- Know why the answer is right, not just which answer it is. If you only memorize answers, a slightly different question will confuse you. Understand the concept. Then no matter how the question is worded, you can think it through.
- Infection control questions come up everywhere. In fundamentals, in medical-surgical, in maternal nursing. Hand hygiene steps, types of isolation, PPE, standard precautions. Know these well.
- Pharmacology is in the exam more than people expect. Common drugs, what they treat, side effects, and nursing precautions. You do not need to know every drug in existence. Focus on the ones that come up regularly in practice.
- Practice under the timer every time. 150 questions in 2 hours and 45 minutes means each question should take you about 66 seconds. Without practicing under the timer, the actual test will be too quick. Train with a timer every time.
- Read every question word by word. You might loose marks by reading too fast. Words like “first,” “best,” “most appropriate,” “contraindicated,” and “except” completely change what the question wants. Slow down and read.
One honest point for nurses: Practice reading and answering clinical questions in English every day. Not because English is a problem, but because answering fast in medical English takes regular practice. The more you do it, the quicker and more accurate you get.
