How to Enroll for the IELTS Exam?
What is IELTS?
If you wish to study, work or migrate abroad, IELTS is an important step for your dream. It is not just a language test, IELTS evaluates your skills in four major areas- reading, listening, writing and speaking. Getting a high score in this worldwide accepting English test will open academic and career opportunities for everyone. Global recognition is one of the most important features of IELTS. Thousands of universities, colleges, employers and the government accept IELTS as a proof of proficiency.
There are two versions of IELTS with different purposes: IELTS Academic and IELTS General training. IELTS Academic is for students to study at universities and other higher education institutions in English Speaking countries. IELTS General training is mainly for immigration purposes in which it assesses practical everyday English language skills.
Registration for IELTS!
You can take the test on any 48 fixed dates in a year. There are options to reattempt the test as many times until you get your desired scores. International Development Program (IDP) in India has solely distributed IELTS Testing in India since 25 July 2021. Previously it was conducted by the British Council, Cambridge English For Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and the International Development Program (IDP).
There are total of three ways in which you can register for IELTS test:
Online: Register and pay the test fee using a credit card.
In-person: Visit any IDP branch or Input Node to register and pay the test fee.
By courier: Register by sending your application via courier and pay the test fee by Demand Draft or deposit slip from ICICI or HDFC bank.
Let’s look into the derail steps in which we register for this test
Online IELTS Registration
- Log on to official IDP IELTS India website
- Select the option – “Register for IELTS”
- Select your test date and test city (you will see the seat availability status)
- Complete the online application form.
- Pay the test fee using a valid credit card (Master / Visa).
Once your IELTS registration is complete, a confirmation will appear on your computer screen which can be printed and kept for future reference. A copy of your confirmation will be sent to your registered email address and also provided in hard copy. To complete your registration, courier the Photocopy of your Passport (first and last page) and any observation pages to the IDP Head Office. If you fail to submit these documents, you won’t be allowed to take the test. Note that you must bring your original passport with you on test day.
Register in person at any IDP branch
You can visit your nearest IDP branch/head office and register using any of the following methods.
Method 1
- Register online using the office computer and pay the test fee. You will receive an immediate confirmation of your seat (same as online registration).
- Submit the required documents: Photocopy of Passport (first and last page) and observation pages, if any.
- Sign and submit the Terms & Conditions document after carefully reading it.
- You will receive an instant acknowledgement letter confirming your test seat.
Method 2
- Collect and complete the application form from the IDP office or Input Node.
- Sign the Terms & Conditions document provided with the form.
- Submit the required documents: Photocopy of Passport (first and last page) and observation pages, if any.
- Pay the test fee using a valid Credit/Debit/ATM card, Demand Draft (in favor of “IDP Education India Private Limited”, payable at New Delhi), It should be made from a bank listed in the approved list of banks or Cash deposit at an ICICI bank branch using a customized deposit slip which is available at IDP website or offices. If using the cash deposit method, submit the original customer copy of the ICICI deposit slip as proof of payment to the IDP branch office or Input Node.
After making the payment, ask the staff at the IDP branch or Input Node to submit your application form through the online registration system.
Also provide you with an acknowledgement slip confirming your test booking and give you a tentative seat reservation. If you paid by bank draft, please note that your seat confirmation will only be finalized once the draft has been cleared and the funds have been realized.
Register by courier and pay the test fee
You can either download the application form from www.ieltsidpindia.com or collect it directly from your nearest IDP branch office.
- Fill out your application form.
- Submit the signed Terms and Conditions document after reading it carefully.
- Submit the required documents: Photocopy of Passport (first and last page) and observation pages, if any.
- Attach your payment proof: Demand Draft (in favor of IDP Education India Private Limited, payable at New Delhi) from an approved bank or Original ICICI deposit slip (if you paid cash at an ICICI bank branch.
- Send your duly filled application form with all necessary documents to:

Your application will be processed upon receiving the documents and fees. The seat allotment for your selected days are subject to the availability of seats.
Rescheduling and Cancellation of IELTS exam date.
- You can change the preferred exam date or cancel the exam after registration and payment.
- You can change the date or cancel it through an email, an official letter or visitation in person.
- If you change the date five weeks or more from the date of your set date, you will need to pay an extra fee.
- You can choose your new date within the three months of your original date.
- If you are planning to give the test after several months, you need to cancel the registration and re-register another date.
- If you want a refund you need to cancel the exam five weeks before the original exam or else there won’t be any refunds.
- If you are absent or sick during the exam date and miss the test, you can provide a medical certificate within five days. This way you can get a refund minus the administrative fee.
