THE STRUCTURE OF SPEAKING SUB-TEST

HOW IS SPEAKING ASSESSED IN OET?

The whole Speaking sub-test is assessed and recorded. Two trained OET Assessors independently marked The Speaking sub-test. On Your test day interlocutor plays no role in the assessment of your performance. OET Assessors’ judgments are targeted and specific; it is not candidates’ ability a general evaluation in spoken English. Assessors are prepared to focus on how a candidate reacts to the specific task on the test day. Clinical Communication Criteria:

Relationship-building is your choice of opening to the conversation and demonstration of empathy and respect for your listener’s comfort. Understanding and incorporating the patient’s perspective reflects how fully you involve the patient in the conversation. Information-gathering is the type of questions you ask and how you listen to the responses. Information-giving provides information and checks with this information is being understood.
