OET, the world’s only international English language proficiency test specifically for healthcare professionals, can now be taken at home. OET at home is a version of OET that can be taken at home via remote proctoring. OET at home allows OET to re-start test delivery during the present COVID-19 pandemic to continue to qualify global healthcare by supporting the ongoing registration of overseas-trained healthcare professionals.
OET at Home is implemented using the ProProctor solution by Prometric, world leaders in technology-enabled testing. As the name says, remote proctoring is managed remotely, under strict test conditions. The immediate focus of this mode of delivery can take safely and securely in the comfort of their own home through remote proctoring.
OET works closely with organisations that recognise the test towards the ongoing acceptance of results issued via this delivery model. The OET sub-tests of Reading, Listening and Writing of OET at Home are carried out through a computer, but the OET Speaking sub-test continues to be carried out with a human interlocutor. OET at Home welcomes you to take the OET test safely and securely in the comfort of your own home.
Now OET avails Three different delivery modes are now to give candidates choice, convenience and confidence:
- OET on paper at test venues – the test of choice for healthcare professionals for the past 30 years
- OET on the computer at test venues – the same test you know and love but on computer
- OET @ home – the same test you know and love but on a computer in your own home.

Meeting the OET at Home requirements
To sit OET at Home, you need to meet specific requirements to ensure that your computer can run Prometric’s ProProctor application. You will have to ensure you meet the technical requirements found in the ProProctor user guide before the test. Mainly, you have to check your screen resolution is set to 1920 x 1080 so that test materials appear correctly.

You need to make ready several items before you take OET at Home. The most important thing you need to bring with you is your valid ID document. You need to make sure that you should bring the same ID you used to book OET. You will also need to have wired headphones or earphones for the Listening, Reading and Writing sub-tests. Headphones are not allowed For Speaking, but you can bring blank paper and pencils to take notes. Finally, you may also need to get a clear water bottle with the label removed in advance.

The following list of items that you cannot keep in your test environment. They are:
- Bags
- Mobile phones
- Watches
- Cameras
- Pens
Day of Test
On your exam day, kindly make sure you get only 15 minutes to prepare your testing environment before the test. Enter the room you have prepared for the examination and close all doors to the room. Once you sit comfortably at your workstation, go to the Prometric Pro Proctor site and launch your exam. Kindly enter your Prometric confirmation number and the first four (4) letters of your last name/surname to launch your exam. The confirmation number is on both your initial booking confirmation email and on your reminder email.
